People will often eat healthier food in order to stay in shape.

The thought of carrots being a sort of eye vitamin is an interesting thought but what facts are there about this?

If we look at the different views on what benefits carrots have for our eyes we can come up with an answer.

Eye vitamins and carrots

A lot of people have heard that carrots are good for their eyes. That eating carrots could improve their eyesight but what truth is in that statement?

Was it something that parents told their children in order to get them to eat their vegetables? Well there is actually a bit of truth in what parents told their children.

When it comes to vision vitamin A is good for it. Since carrots have Vitamin A and Beta Carotene it can actually help with keeping your eyes in good shape. With the right amount of these vitamins it can help fight off such things as cataracts and macular degeneration.

There are other good things in carrots such as rhodopsin. Rhodopsin helps the eyes see when the lights are low. Rhodopsin is responsible for helping us see at night.

If we were deficient in rhodopsin we would not be able to see very well at night even during a full moon when it is the lightest on those nights.

Carrots were first introduced as being good for our vision during World War II. At that time we had a lot of carrots while other foods were not as plentiful. During that time the British Royal Air Force told their airmen that eating more carrots would help them defeat the enemy during the night hours. This is what started the whole story about carrots being good for our eyes.

Just think all it took was one to many airmen complaining about eating carrots again and a story was told to keep them eating them. Although there is some truth that carrots are good for your eyes this myth has gone on for many years since World War II.

Since then, the fact about carrots are now clear to us.

The next thought would be is there some sort of eye vitamin or eye supplement that we should be taking to improve our eyesight.

Most health conscious people would wonder is there anything I can take to improve my eyesight. If so what eye supplements and eye vitamins would work?

A simple solution would be to eat carrots but just not a lot of them. There are also some vitamins out there that are supposed to help with vision but they don’t actually do too much to improve your eyesight.

It is important for everyone no matter what age he or she are to have a certain amount of vitamins in their system. We get vitamins in our food. The vitamins that are in our food are beneficial to our health. Here is a list of vitamins that are beneficial to eye health:

Vitamin C also helps slow down the process of macular degeneration and cataracts.

Lutein to help the aging of the eyes

Lutein is found in several foods such as spinach, turnip greens, and kale. Lutein is important for our eye health since it is found in our retinas.

When we eat stuff such as zeaxanthin and carotenoids that contain lutein it becomes a great antioxidant. This antioxidant can help us with vision problems that are age related such as macular degeneration and cataracts.

When we eat the right foods they can act as a sort of eye supplement or eye vitamin to help improve our vision while slowing down the process of vision age related problems.

It’s never too early or too late to improve your health by improving your diet. The experts will tell you that it’s important to your health to eat enough fruits and vegetables.

It is also important to your eyes to eat a healthy diet to improve and prolong your eyesight.
