What is Cortisol?

Cortisol is a stress hormone that is naturally produced by your adrenal glands. Whenever you feel like you are in a stressful situation, or if you feel like you are in danger & feel afraid, the Hypothalamus (which is a part of your brain) calls out your adrenal glands to activate your “fight or flight” response. That is when your adrenal glands respond by producing a wave of cortisol or stress hormones. Stress can be caused from both a physical and mental state.
