Yeast Infections Treatment. Vaginal yeast infection or what is otherwise called as vaginal candidiasis fungal infection that affects 2 out of 4 women. The infection is caused by a fungus called Candida albicans that may be transmitted to a male partner during sexual intercourse. However, a woman who is not sexually active may also get this infection.

The vagina naturally has yeast within its area. Candidiasis occurs when these yeast cells multiply uncontrollably.  Lactobacillus is a bacteria are present in large numbers in the vagina. These good bacteria regulate the growth of the yeast cells. When a situation leads to the decrease of Lactobacillus bacteria in the vagina such as taking antibiotics or wearing unwashed underwear, the yeast cells begin to grow rapidly causing symptoms of vaginal candidiasis. Treating Vaginal Candidiasis at Home

Medications are usually what people immediately turn to when looking to treat yeast infections. On the other hand, there are also alternative therapies that can be used as yeast infections treatment.

  1. Over-the-Counter Ointments

Ointments used to treat Candidiasis are easily bought in pharmacies and grocery stores even without a doctor’s prescription. These ointments contain powerful antifungals that can be applied either for a span of 3 days or in worse cases, weeks long.

  1. Coconut oil

A research in 2007 showed that Candida albicans were more susceptible to high concentrations of coconut oil than fluconazole which is usually the one used as yeast infections treatment. A supporting study was also conducted in 2012 which showed that Candida albicans exposed in coconut oil yielded positive results for susceptibility.

  1. Probiotics

Probiotics are helpful when it comes to getting rid of yeast infections. Probiotics contain Lactobacillus that helps control Candida infections.

Some probiotic supplements available in pharmacies and drug stores can also be taken orally or inserted directly into the vagina. In fact in 2012, a specially formulated pill was tested against vaginal candidiasis. Results showed that symptoms were lessened in 80% of the infected women who participated in the study proving that probiotics is really an effective yeast infections treatment.

There are a lot of other ways to get rid of candidiasis. If you don’t want medication, then you can use the alternative yeast infection treatments listed above. Either way, you need to get your Candida infection under control before it worsens.
